Start Small & Keep Costs Down - Growing your Website

One of the biggest misconceptions about websites is that you must build it all at once.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only is it financially advantageous to start small and grow slowly, it can be helpful in allowing you to find the right niche.  Some of the best websites started as just simple 2-3 page business card sites and over the course of several years are now top ranked in Google. 

The key is consistency.  When you start with a small site, the challenge is to regularly add features and content. Unfortunately you can't just build it and forget it.  At least every 3 or 4 months you need to add a page or two of information about your industry, or perhaps something new and interactive to bring visitors back.  When visitors begin to see your site is ever-changing with new content whenever they return, there is incentive to come back and see "what's next?".  Over time when good reliable information is regularly displayed and you've built up a trust and rappor with your visitors, they'll want to try your product or service.  If your website's customer service is supportive after the sale, they'll become fiercely loyal customers.  Whether your site is ecommerce based, or information based, it's important to consistently add new products, content and good information over time and provide support for those products and services on the website.

Connecting Twitter & Facebook
Many people have asked about this - when you update Twitter it will automatically update Facebook too...here are some step-by-step instructions... (click on the image for a full size view)

Top 10 Timewasters

With the economy in free-fall and business slow, why not enjoy all that time you have on your hands now?  Here is a list of some of the best time wasters on the Internet...

1. Falling Sand    This is an absolutely incredible toy. You can use the choices at the bottom to change your "drawing tool" and rate that things happen. I guarantee you will play with this for hours and hours.

2. Not Pr0n    Not Pr0n is essentially a puzzle game -- a very hard puzzle game. But it is also very addictive and a lot of fun. Each new page has a puzzle to be solved to get to the next one. The forum may help you find subtle hints to help you when you and stuck

3. Someone keeps stealing my letters...   Imagine the chaos and the fun of having dozens of people trying to spell out words with virtual letter magnets on a virtual refrigerator. 

4. Samorost   Incredible graphics and fun game. There are a limited number of levels, so you can only waste so much time here..

5. Samorost 2 ... you count Samorost 2. After you have mastered the original, Samorest 2 awaits your attention. You will laugh out load at some the bizarre contraptions and pure creativity in this sequel.

6. Subservient Chicken   Your wish is the Subservient Chicken's command. Curious now?

7. Stuff on My Cat    This one is not interactive, but there are so many pictures and many of them will make you laugh so much, that it can take hours to get through the site. The pictures range from cute to bizarre and even if you are not a cat lover it is worth checking out this site.

8. Spirograph   I had a Spirograph as a kid and loved spending hours making amazing geometric drawings with it. This is a spirograph without wasting ink.

9. Sodaconstructor    Ever wish you could create a moving robot from masses, springs and muscles? Now you can spend hours playing with the constructor. Create your masterpiece and watch it walk and dance around.

10. SymmetryLab Machine  This is a work in progress, but you can still have a lot of fun and waste a lot of time building animated machines form a simple set of parts.

There are many options for do-it-yourselfers out there...some good, some not so good...but they are all worth taking a look at.

OPTION #1: WEB TEMPLATE

Pick up a template to customize- select from thousands of designs. Templates are a great way to get a complex design cheap.  Downside is no two are alike and they can be quite confusing to use. Website templates are a great tool to get websites up and running fast if you have the skills to work with them - I invite you to take a look at some of the inexpensive templates we offer at reduced prices - scroll to the bottom of the page....

OPTION #2: CLICK and build WEBSITE

For those of you that may want something potentially simpler and quicker, AND you're not as demanding in terms of the end result ... then a turn-key 'click and build website'  may be the choice for you.  While some are easy to use, if you are new to the web you will still find them hard to do.  I don't recommend them mainly because most are not search engine friendly and almost all are impossible to expand and move to another host should you become unhappy with your current one.  Ours isn't too bad...but a hand-built site is always a better option for best SEO results. We also offer site analytics so you can see how your new site is doing or add a photo album and a blog.

OPTION #3: CMS WEBSITE

A CMS website is the best of both worlds - customized and search engine friendly for best results - yet you can make your own text and photo changes when you want.  Slightly more expensive than a standard static or click and build website, it will save you $$ in the long run.  Just don't do it if you aren't a hands-on type of person.  It also may be quicker and easier to use than either other option if you are inexperienced.  A good web developer can put a whole site together faster than the time it takes you to learn about and build a mere page..
